- X cities – population of more than 50 Lakh, Y cities – population of equal to or near 50 Lakh and Z cities – population of less than 50 Lakh.
SSC CHSL Perks & Allowances
Apart from the basic pay and grade pay, the selected candidates receive various different allowances in accordance with the norms put in place by the government. The details regarding the different allowances offered by the commission are given in the points below. These allowances make up for the various types of expenditures that are incurred during the rendering of services by the selected candidates.
- House Rent Allowance: Every employee who provides their services needs a place to stay for themselves as well as their family members. The commission provides House Rent Allowance (HRA) as a fixed percentage of the basic pay which varies for each category of the city in which they are posted. For X cities this percentage is 30%, for Y cities it is 20% and it is 10% for Z cities.
- Dearness Allowance: The cost of living increases regularly with inflation and other market forces. To help the employees cope with this, the commission provides a dearness allowance to all the selected candidates equal for each city type. As per the latest updated rates, the DA for the candidates selected in various posts of SSC CHSL is 50% of the basic pay.
- Travel Allowance: The employees receive this allowance to compensate for the expenses incurred by them for their daily commute as well as the occasional deployment for other purposes. This allowance also differs according to the type of city they are posted in. Those posted in X cities receive the highest TA as the modes of transport in such cities are more expensive.
- Leave Travel Concession: This is the amount provided by the government to its employees for traveling during vacations for themselves and their families. There are certain criteria put in place to determine the maximum amount of LTC that can be provided according to the post of the candidates and the destination & mode of travel.
