RRB Group D Salary 2024, Job Profile and Promotions

The RRB Group D Salary starts from the first level i.e. Pay Level 1 under the 7th Pay Commission.  The basic salary under Pay Level 1 is set to Rs. 18,000, above which Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, and other allowances will be permissible. The RRB Group D exam recruits candidates for positions like Track Maintainer Grade IV and Helpers or Assistants in Electrical/Mechanical/Signal & Telecommunication Departments at Level 1.

RRB Group D Salary 2024

The selected candidates receive a basic salary of Rs.18000 during the training phase. Upon completion, candidates receive many other allowances. The major ones like DA, HRA, and TA are included in the salary calculations given below. Overall, candidates can expect a gross salary of Rs. 30,000 to  Rs. 35,000 under RRB Group D posts. There will be other minor allowances as well as deductions towards NPS, CGHS, etc. So, the in-hand salary may differ by Rs 1,000-2,000.

The X, Y, and Z tier cities are classified on the basis of population. Generally, cities with higher population and higher demand have a high cost of living. Therefore, candidates posted in these cities are given higher House Rent Allowance and Transport Allowance.

Classification of Cities:

• X Cities: Population >= 50 lakhs
• Y Cities: Population between 5 and 50 lakhs
• Z Cities: Population less than 5 lakhs

Another important classification is higher TPTA cities where the transport cost is higher. X cities are automatically given higher TPTA status and Z cities do not come under this category. Job Profile Under RRB Group D

Track Maintainer Grade IV

• Maintains and repairs tracks
• Inspects tracks and ensures track alignment
• Reports abnormalities to authorities

Helpers or Assistants in Various Departments

• Electrical: Helps maintain electrical supply, lighting, and air conditioning in trains as well as stations
• Mechanical: Assists in maintaining and repairing the coaches
• Signal & Telecommunication (S&T): Assists in operating, maintaining, and repairing railway signalling systems
• Pointsman in the Traffic Department: Operates switches to signal trains to safely navigate on the tracks
• Store Assistant: Assists in procuring equipment and materials for railway operations

Promotions

After serving under Group D for 3 years continuously, candidates are eligible for promotion to Group C through departmental exams. Candidates can reach the post of Section Engineer, Superintendent or Depot Material Superintendent Grade I based on their respective departments.
